Things to consider:
In part 1 of this series we discussed safety. Now that we’re through with some of the VERY important stuff, let’s get into some fun stuff. Planning your trip, choosing your location, planning your activities: fishing, diving or just enjoying nature.
Where To Go:

In planning your first kayak trip you should look somewhere that is nice and easy with little to no fast moving water. You don’t won’t to be this guy in the picture on your first trip out!! It may look like fun, but I can tell you from experience it can go bad before you know it. I would suggest you go with a friend or even a group before you strike out on your own. After you have been out a few times with a friend by all means get out there on your own. There is nothing like getting out on the water in a kayak by yourself with only you and nature. It’s something that few will ever get to experience. I’m not saying go find some whitewater on your own, never go whitewater kayaking on your own. When you do decide to get out on your own find some place that is nice and easy water to float.
If you are anywhere around south Alabama look at my YouTube channel to find lots of information on places to go for first time kayaking.

Activities Along The Way:
If you missed part 1 you can go check it out then come back over here in a minute. I’ll wait for you! Ok Now that you’re all caught up, we talked about a dry bag and bringing some extra clothes in part one. Well this is why, Most folks that go kayaking will be getting in the water at some point. You will want to have something to dry off with after going for a swim or even a change of clothes after you are done swimming.
Diving Or Snorkeling :

If you are going to a place that has some clear water or even some springs don’t forget a mask, snorkel and fins. Experiencing the beauty that nature has to offer while you are paddling is something to see, but that is just a sample of what is out there or should I say under there. If you don’t have a mask you can pick up a simple pair of goggles or a set with a snorkel and experience the underwater world. I’ll link some from Amazon below to make it easy for you to find something for your trip.
Fishing Stuff :
Fishing is one of my favorite things to do on a kayak! I will dive deeper into this subject in more detail in another post, but I will tell you if you try it you will be hooked. For now I will say if you like to fish then by all means bring a pole with you. In moving water for me it is easer to fish with something weedless like a plastic worm, but you can bring a few different things and give it a try. Just be ready to lose a lure because it will happen sooner or later.

Part 2 Conclusion :
Pick an appropriate spot if it’s your first time. Don’t be that guy or gal that thinks I got this. If you go solo don’t hit something that is to fast with a lot of whitewater.
Bring a mask and a snorkel, you will not want to miss the amount of beauty and all the action that goes on underneath your kayak.
Like I said kayak fishing is a favorite of mine so I encourage you to give it a try.
